We’re rolling out the red carpet for the real-life heroes who keep our communities safe — and even a few big-screen superheroes are joining the fun!
Family Safety Day: Hangin’ with Heroes is a FREE community event happening on September 6th from 10 AM–1 PM at Mission Valley Shopping Center.
This annual event brings families and first responders together in a fun, interactive setting. The goal? To equip San Diego families with essential safety tips and resources — all while creating an unforgettable day of hands-on activities, live demos, and heroic memories.

What does my FREE Ticket Include?
You'll get access to Hero Headquarters, the Superhero Scavenger Hunt, Superheroes in Training, the Superhero Kids Costume Contest, the Superhero Center Stage, and the Superhero Support Zone, which includes all our local businesses and non-profit partners. We have some heroic photo ops to snap that instaworthy photo! You can also visit our food and beverage partners, which are available for purchase, and enjoy crafts, FREE Swag & samples from various partners; a live DJ will be available. Ticket upgrades are available.
The event will take place in the parking lot area of Mission Valley Shopping Center, near Novo Brazil Brewpub. Activities will be set up both in the lot directly in front of Novo, as well as inside the brewpub and on their patio. We encourage all guests to park in the underground lot and enter through the shopping center. Check-in will be located outside the Novo patio, inside the center. After check-in, you'll receive a wristband that grants access to both the indoor spaces at Novo and the outdoor event area in the parking lot.

Parking is abundant and FREE at Mission Valley. To help reduce congestion and minimize the impact on other shoppers, please park underground near 24 Hour Fitness. Take the walkway up through the center, pass by Foot Locker and Eighteen Threads, San Diego Football Club, and find the check-in to Family Safety Day, which will be located in front of Novo Brewing. We will begin checking in our VIP guests at 9:45 am and doors open at 10 am.
When is the Schedule Sent Out?
Please check your email 72 hours prior to the event. We will send out the schedule of entertainment, which includes the meet and greets with all of the superheroes, raffle prize schedule, and special appearances.
Food and drink: What food will be served at the event? Can I bring my own food or drink?
There will be a variety of food and beverage vendors within the event. Novo Brazil Brewing also serves a variety of food, including Brazilian-inspired dishes and traditional sports bar fare. You can dine in, or grab it to go and bring it out to the event area. Craft Brews and Hard Kombucha will have to be consumed inside Novo Brewing.
